Rye Lawn Tennis Club Open Day

The annual open day at Rye Lawn Tennis Club, co-hosted by the club and by its coaching partner, Hotshotz Tennis, and open to members and non members alike took place on Saturday 29 June on a glorious sunny day.

In the morning there was free coaching for tennis, padel and squash for over 70 adults and children, all provided by the 6 coaches for the different sports and this was a great introduction for many to these sports.

This was followed by a BBQ lunch and drinks in the bar at the clubhouse.

In the afternoon, an American mixed doubles tennis tournament was held on the superb grass courts with over 50 participants, including many non members – some coming from as far afield as London – followed once again by a BBQ and drinks at the clubhouse. A wonderful padel exhibition match was held in the afternoon and was a great opportunity for beginners to see this game played to a high level. This was followed by free play on the padel courts for padel enthusiasts.

The day was a great opportunity for non members to experience the club’s superb facilities, including 8 grass tennis courts, 3 clay tennis courts, 2 padel courts, 2 squash courts and a friendly and well-stocked bar. In particular, padel is the fastest growing racquet sport in the world and due to a dearth of courts in this country, there are no other courts within 25 miles of Rye.

Following the open day, 19 new members have already joined the club.
