Last Friday saw the inaugural wine-tasting & wine quiz at Rye Tennis Club, hosted by Graeme Foster owner of Rye Fine Wines.
There were 6 fabulous wines to taste, a wonderful local sparkling rose from Oxney to start, followed by two white wines, a Muscadet from Loire valley and a Biancalella from Ischia. These wines were accompanied by a charcuterie platter that included some of the finest English cheeses, and Graeme offered background information on all the wines that encouraged participants to fill out tasting notes.
Before the three red wines were introduced, Graeme distributed the wine quiz questions for participants to fill out in their teams. 24 questions of differing difficulties which certainly had the room buzzing.
The reds then arrived. A classic tasting St Emilion, a full-bodied Spanish Ribero del Duero, and finally a Negroamaro from Puglia in Italy.
Neil and Jeannie were triumphant in the quiz and were awarded with a stunning bottle of award winning Gusbourne Sparkling Wine.
The evening proved to be highly enjoyable, and everybody said how much they enjoyed the wines, the ambience, and were all keen to take part in future events.
Graeme was also keen to thank Claire and Zoe for helping to facilitate the event and would happily do more in the future.
