Some exciting news about the future of Rye Lawn Tennis Club – news that we believe will transform what we can offer our members and the wider community for years to come.
Our Vision: A Two-Phase Development
We have ambitious plans to significantly enhance and expand our facilities on the Poole Field, a site adjacent to the Club, and we want you to be part of making them happen.
Phase 1: Two Covered Padel Courts
Rye Lawn Tennis Club has always been a pioneer. We were among the first clubs in the country to embrace padel and we are proud to be home to the oldest padel court in the UK. Member enthusiasm has been extraordinary, with players of all ages and abilities drawn to the game’s sociable, fast-paced and inclusive nature. We are therefore delighted to announce that we have now formally submitted our planning application for two covered padel courts on the Poole Field. Together with 24 new parking places, these will sit alongside our existing facilities and allow us to offer consistent, year-round play – no more cancelled sessions in winter or poor weather. Covered courts will also open the door to expanded coaching programmes, junior and family sessions, and social events that attract new members and bring greater life to the Club throughout the year.
Phase 2: Two New Tennis Courts and Pavilion
Looking further ahead, Phase 2 will see the addition of two new tennis courts and a small pavilion on the same site – creating a truly outstanding racket sports facility that the whole community can be proud of.
Together, these two phases represent a transformation of the Club: a modern, welcoming, all-weather venue that serves members, families and the local area like never before.
The Poole Field Fund
Our Fundraising Drive Starts Now
With the planning application submitted, we are today launching the Poole Field Fund – our fundraising campaign to deliver both phases of this exciting development. We need your help.
Delivering this vision requires significant investment that the Club cannot meet from its existing resources alone. The Poole Field Fund will draw on a range of sources, including:
Every contribution, large or small, will make a real difference. Member support will be crucial – not only financially, but in demonstrating to funders and the planning authority the strength of feeling and community backing behind this project.
Full details of how to contribute to the Poole Field Fund will follow very shortly. In the meantime, if you already know of a potential sponsor or funder, or would like to help organise a fundraising event, please do get in touch – we would love to hear from you.
Our Responsibilities to the Community
We are very conscious of our responsibilities to our neighbours and the surrounding area. The plans include carefully considered measures to manage noise, lighting, hours of use and traffic. We have worked closely with professional advisers to ensure the design of the Poole Field development is as sensitive as possible to its setting and we are committed to being good neighbours throughout this process.
This is a rare opportunity to be part of something truly special – a legacy development that will benefit our members and the wider community for generations. The planning application is in and the Poole Field Fund is open; now it is time to come together and make it happen.
