The Annual Closed Tournament, on Sunday 9th August, wrapped up a magnificent ten days of tennis at the Club. On another very hot and sunny day, long-term members and some newer faces enjoyed healthy competition, with gripping rallies and a fantastic level of tennis on display.
In the ladies’ singles, seven players battled it out across two groups, with the winners of both groups meeting in the final. Vicki Lowe celebrated another win this year after edging out an impressive performance from Evie Hoffman in the final. Clinching her second prize of the day, Vicki Lowe and partner Heather Mott topped the table in the doubles, with Melanie Baynton- Perret and Sarah Walsh coming in a close second.
With some fierce competition on the men’s side, Simon Latham fought his way through a tough field to meet Ollie Bearcroft in the final and take the RLTC title in his first membership year! A lengthy doubles final eventually saw Scott Brotherton and Alex Hoffman stake their claim and take the title, with Dom Atwell-Harris and Freddie Pack worthy runners-up.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in a brilliantly entertaining day of tennis. Special thanks to Tom Meyer for keeping everyone fed with a delicious BBQ and ice-cream and to David Goddard and Charlotte Draper for organising the event.
