There was a clue in the name as over 30 padel players gathered in the foggy and cold Rye weather for 5 hours of fantastic padel action during the Frostbite Mexicano Padel Tournament.
The day kicked off with two groups of players. The early birds set off at a cracking pace, showcasing plenty of long rallies and closely-fought matches. In the end, Pete clinched first place with 21 points, while Mary, Richard, and Sandra tied for second with 19 points each. The free-flowing mulled wine, mince pies, and biscuits certainly helped fuel the competitive spirit!
In the second group, it was an all-out Mynott showdown, with Arthur taking first place with an impressive 24 points. His father and brother made valiant (and humorous) attempts to throw him off with their costumes, but Arthur held strong. Johny and Robert tied for second with 21 points apiece.
A huge thank you goes to Jackie for stepping up and going above and beyond to organize such a fun-filled tournament. Events like this truly showcase what makes Rye Lawn Tennis Club so special: a perfect blend of high-level padel and a warm, social atmosphere.
Thanks also to helpers Jo, SB, and everyone who pitched in to make the day such a success. Here’s to more memorable events on and off the court!
