For the second year in a row, we hosted our Junior Closed Tournament on Sunday, with another brilliant day of junior tennis at Rye Lawn Tennis & Squash Club.
This year, we were lucky enough to take over all eight grass courts for the Boys’ and Girls’ Yellow Ball Singles tournaments, alongside our Mixed Red and Orange Ball competitions.
The tournament has already grown considerably. Last year we welcomed 16 players; this year, an amazing 23 juniorstook part, with plenty of fantastic matches, great points and more than a little drama along the way.
The Boys’ Singles produced some of the closest matches of the day. Levant won his semi-final 10–9 on a sudden-death tiebreak point, before Finnian went on to take the final by exactly the same score — 10–9 on another sudden-death point.
It was a brilliant finish to a fiercely contested competition.
In the Girls’ Singles final, Melian played some wonderfully consistent tennis to outlast Farleigh in a great match and take the title.
There was also a little bit of club history made, with Camelia becoming the winner of our first-ever Red Ball final.
The Orange Ball final was a family affair, with Ingrid taking on her brother Otto and coming away with the title.
A huge well done to all 23 players who competed. It was fantastic to see so much enthusiasm and competitive tennis, while still keeping the day fun and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the tournament possible, as well as all the parents and supporters who came along to cheer the juniors on.
Lots of great tennis, plenty of memorable points and a fantastic way to round off another Junior Closed Tournament.
We’re already looking forward to making it even bigger and better next year.
