Set on the River Rother, the annual Rye Lawn Tennis Tournament is the Club’s most enduring sporting tradition. First contested in 1922, the tournament has been a fixture of the local summer calendar and we pride ourselves on the finest quality of our grass courts. It attracts competitors from clubs across the country and further afield. The tournament also embraces a more relaxed spirit, offering opportunities for social players to take part and ensuring the event remains as welcoming and inclusive as it is competitive. Temporary membership is required for all non-members.
Why don’t you enter into the spirit via our new online entry form, which will be open in due course. Entries will close at midday on Monday 20th July 2026.
We offer eight events, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles. There are Open events and Handicap events, where players are given a ranking based on ability – so everyone has a real chance to win! Some events are divided into A and B sections depending on skill level. Need a partner? Just let us know and we’ll do our best to match you.
A large marquee bar keeps everyone refreshed throughout the tournament, with delicious lunches and traditional teas from Rye Deli. On Saturday evening, a BBQ provides the perfect chance to relax and socialise after a day on court. Tickets for the BBQ are available in advance.
You will also find a range of stalls selling sports equipment and clothing, including our own club merchandise, plus a restringing service.
Parking is free in the field, with a charge for cars closer to the courts.
Play kicks off with the singles on Friday from 11:00 am, with the finals for all events played on Monday.
By entering the events you agree to our terms and conditions of play.
For all events taking part on the grass courts, please can all players come wearing shoes that are designed for tennis. Predominantly white clothing must be worn. Learn More
