Saturday 4th October marked the third annual Rye Ladies’ Closed Padel Tournament, held shortly after the passing of Storm Amy. While the wind made its presence known throughout the day, it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm or spirit of the players who took to the court.
Ten competitors participated in what proved to be a lively and hard-fought event. Despite the blustery conditions, rallies were long and skill levels impressive, with every point keenly contested.
After a series of closely fought matches, Sally Watson and Annie Youngman claimed the title of champions, showcasing impressive teamwork and composure under pressure. Kate van der Pump and Sophie Stubbs secured a well-earned runner-up position, while Jackie Morgan and Mags Mynott took a commendable third place following another strong performance.
The event was a great success, both on and off the court, and a testament to the growing enthusiasm for padel at Rye. With the men’s tournament taking place this coming Saturday, excitement is already building – and if the ladies’ competition is anything to go by, it promises to be another fantastic day of friendly rivalry and exceptional play.
