The Opening Season Grass Court Tournament took place on Sunday 25 May in brilliant sunshine, marking a fantastic start to the summer season at Rye Lawn Tennis Club.
The grass courts were in immaculate condition, and a big thank you goes to our dedicated groundsman, Adam Stunt, for preparing them to such a high standard. His hard work was much appreciated by all players and spectators on the day.
This year saw a record turnout of 46 players — a wonderful mix of members and guests — who were organised into four groups. Play took place on a round-robin basis within each group, with many keenly contested and enjoyable games throughout the afternoon. It was lovely to see so many club members taking part, and we hope it will encourage more of you to sign up for future tournaments — and maybe even persuade a few friends to join in next time! If you’d like to take part but don’t have a partner, the club will always do its best to match you with someone.
Congratulations to the four group winners:
Winners were presented with a much-prized Rye Tennis Club cap and a trophy — with the inflatable trophy proving particularly popular!
After the tournament, many players made their way to the bar, which was doing a roaring trade in the afternoon sun. A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all, and it was a perfect way to celebrate the start of a new season on Rye’s magnificent grass courts.
We look forward to seeing you on court again soon!
